Fresh tenders called for Airport Road, Jayadeva Circle flyovers

BANGALORE: Two weeks after withdrawing the contract for Jayadeva and Airport Road flyovers from UP State Bridge Corporation Limited (UPSBC), the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has now called for tenders to complete the remaining work. Contracts will be given within a fortnight.
According to BDA sources, tenders were issued for the Jayadeva flyover last week, but there was some indecision about the other contract. While the BDA was hoping to give the contract to the Mumbai-based Gammon India Limited, the State Government shot down the idea and directed the Authority to call for fresh tenders.
‘‘Issuing tenders again takes more time. We thought it will be easier to give it to the company quoting least,’’ a senior BDA official told this website’s newspaperpaper. The price quoted by Gammon India Limited quoted the third least during the earlier tender.
BDA alleges that UPSBC earlier had deliberately under quoted at the time of issue of contract, which led to shortage of funds later. The second lowest quote was by Simplex Concrete Piles (I) Limited, which is currently constructing the Anand Rao Circle flyover. ‘‘As Simplex was already handling one project we decided to hand over the contract to Gammon,’’ the official said.
The remaining work at Airport Road flyover is estimated at Rs 26.5 Crore -- main flyover, four loops and service roads remain. At Jayadeva flyover, one arm of the flyover and Bannerghatta Road underpass remain, costing approximately Rs 10 crore.
