NEW DELHI, MARCH 8: Bangalore mass rapid transit on Tuesday invited bids for a Rs 400 crore construction work relating to the Rs 6,200 crore metro project meant for the it hub under the first project execution phase.

The Karnataka state enterprise invited contractors for construction of elevated structures that exclude construction works on station, for a stretch measuring 21 kms.

The invited bid for the construction work is a part of the first phase of the metro rail project. The state government, which accord green signal to the project on early this month, hopes to commence the work from this June and make the metro rail operational by October 2008.

Due to steep rise in land prices, initital project cost has gone up by about Rs 600 crore, said an official associated with the project.

It has also been learnt that the defence authorities have agreed to part with 50 hectares under their control for the metro rail project. The project report was appraised by UTI Bank. The metro project would spread over 36.5 kms and connect different the directions in about 33 minutes.
