BANGALORE, MARCH. 7. Three more satellite bus stations, apart from the one being constructed on Mysore Road, will be built to reduce the congestion in the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) bus terminus in Gandhinagar, the Minister for Water Resources and Transport, M. Mallikarjun Kharge.

Talking to presspersons after inspecting the progress of work on the satellite bus terminus on Mysore Road, Mr. Kharge said similar facilities will be constructed in K.R. Puram, Hebbal and Hosur-Sarjapur Road. "Building bus stations in the northern, southern, eastern and western parts of the city will reduce the congestion at the Gandhinagar bus stand," he said.

The KSRTC, he said, is planning to modernise the Gandhinagar bus terminus and turn it into a "landmark of the Karnataka." "A decision will be taken after a report is presented to the Government," he said.

The modern bus terminus on Mysore Road, Mr. Kharge said, will be completed by the end of April. It will reduce by 15 per cent the number of buses entering the Gandhinagar terminus.

The Rs. 20-crore project is funded by the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation and the KSRTC, he said.

Mr. Kharge said the project cost will rise owing to the escalation in steel and cement prices, and the KSRTC will provide the additional funds required. "I have asked the construction company not to stop the work for this reason. I do not want this work to come to a halt half way as it happened in the case of some flyovers," he said.

Subways

The Mysore Road terminus is for both KSRTC and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses. Sixteen platforms will be used by the KSRTC and three by the BMTC. The platforms will be connected by subways. A cellar will provide the space for a bus maintenance depot and two-and four-wheeler parking. The terminus will also have a deluxe lounge for people using the KSRTC's premium services.
