Automatic Gates At Brigade Road Junction To Check Jaywalking

Bangalore: Shoppers on M.G. Road, Commercial Street and Brigade Road can look forward to better facilities, whether it’s for parking or safer pedestrian movement.
While automatic gates for pedestrians will be installed at the Brigade Road-M.G. Road junction, parking meters on the lines of those on Brigade Road will be introduced on M.G. Road and Commercial Street in the coming months.
According to Secretary of Bangalore Traders’ Association, B.T. Srinath, parking meters which were a success on Brigade Road, will be installed on M.G. Road by March. Over Rs 3 lakh was collected through parking meters on Brigade Road in December.
“Some vehicles are parked on M.G. Road for very long hours and this sometimes causes clogging. With meters in place, parking can be regulated on the stretch which has limited space,’’ he said.

Official agreement yet to be made:

An official agreement is yet to be made with the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) though it has “tentatively agreed” for the installation of the parking meters, Srinath said.
Ten parking meters are planned to be installed on M.G. Road (stretch from Anil Kumble Circle to Brigade Road junction), for both two-wheelers and four wheelers.

Parking meters on Commercial Street:

Ten more meters will be installed on Commercial Street. They will be set up on either side of the road as parking is allowed on alternate days on each side.

Automatic gates to check jaywalking:

On the automatic gates for pedestrians, Brigades Shops and Establishments Association secretary, Suhail Yusuff, said that six gates will be set up at the M.G. Road-Brigade Road junction.
“The gates that will be installed at zebra-crossings will open when the pedestrian signal goes on. This will ensure safety of pedestrians,’’ he added. It will prevent jaywalking.
