The City unit of the BJP has condemned the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s decision to regularise about 13 parking lots in Malleshwaram which had figured in the list of unauthorised pay-and-park lots. These parking lots were on the list submitted by BJP to the Lokayukta in its complaint, of an alleged mafia at work behind the issue of the parking lots contract.

Stating that the measure would only embolden vested interests to continue to indulge in maintaining unauthorised pay-and-park lots and force their approval by the BMP, the BJP has demanded the cancellation of these contracts and suspension of the revenue officials responsible for the same.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, BJP spokesperson S Prakash charged the BMP with misleading the Lokayukta himself.

When commercial areas like Chickpet and Gandhinagar themselves are sanctioned just nine such parking lots, what was the need for Malleshwaram - a largely residential area - to have more than 18 of them, the BJP sought to know.
