Its flower show time again




Rare varieties to bloom at horticulture show

Nurserymen and associations from across India including Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra will also be participating in the flower show.

Rare varieties of flowers, fruits and vegetables will find its way in the horticultural show to be held at Lalbagh’s Glass house and Dr M H Mariagowda Memorial Hall between January 20 and 26.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Horticulture Department Director Vasanth Kumar said that the 6-day long ‘Indian Republic Day Horticultural Show’ organised by Mysore Horticultural Society will have additional features including Dutch flower arrangements and display of various water, aromatic and medicinal plants. Thai art of ‘Banana leaf folding’ will also be another highlight of the exhibition.

Keeping in mind the changing scenario of horticulture, the show will focus mainly at disseminating information on the new technologies in the field and not just the aesthetics part of it, added Vasanth Kumar.

Elaborating on the details of the schedule, Mr Kumar said that the exhibition on Indian Floral Art, Ikebana, vegetable carving and Bonsai will be held on January 22 and 23 at Dr M H Memorial Hall. Meanwhile, competitions for events like ‘vegetable and ornamental garden’ will be held on January 25 at the same venue.

Entry fee

The visitors will have to pay an entry fee of Rs 15 for adults and Rs 5 for children under five years for a day’s entry and the tickets are available at Lalbagh Main Gate, Double Road Gate, Siddapura Gate and Basavanagudi gates. The show timing is between 8 am and 7pm.

A special concession will also be provided for school children to visit the flower show free of charge on January 25 between 8 am and 12 noon. For details, contact 26576781.
