BANGALORE: The Cantonment Railway Station is all set to wear a new look with a lush green landscape shaping up at its entrance.

The Railway authorities have plans to develop the vacant space on their land into a garden with grass and flowering plants. A new wall and grills have already been put up to form an enclosure around the area.

“This is part of the Railways improvement project which covers the six stations in the city,” said divisional railway manager Mahesh Kumar.

The parking lot in Cantt has also been improved and made more secure, with walls and fencing.

The landscaping work will be followed by renovations on the concourse and platform surface, similar to the city railway station. “We are spending around Rs. 25 lakh on improvement of the Cantt station.

A similar amount has been set aside for the Krishnarajapuram station also, where work will begin next month,” Kumar said.

The maximum budget is for renovations at the city station, for which Railways have earmarked Rs. 4 crore. Work is now progressing rapidly here, and will be complete by March end, the DRM said.

Major changes will be made in the Yeshwantpur station also, for which Rs. 1.7 crore is being spent.Meanwhile, improvement of the Malleswaram station is complete - retaining walls have been rebuilt, platforms raised and landscaping done.

The renovated station will be formally inaugurated by the DRM next week.
