Second day of Habba dances to rock concerts and plays

It is not known if Prince Edward, whose statue stands guard at Cubbon Park, was a rock music aficianado; if he was, he must be having a good time indeed. The second day of Bangalore Habba saw the bands ‘Black Earth’ and ‘Paroussia’ perform several popular–and in some cases not so popular–numbers at the foot of the statue.
The show lasted two hours starting at 7 pm. Dream Theatre, Deep Purple, Metallica and Whitesnake were a few of the bands that were covered.
Meanwhile Ravindra Kalakshetra witnessed some scintillating dance performances from the famous Nrityagram Dance Ensemble and Priyadarshini Govind. Ms Govind is a skilled danseuse who has been learning Bharatanatyam from the age of six, and has performed in India and abroad.
‘Laughing Wild’, a rather unusual play, was staged in Chowdiah Memorial Hall.
The play, which is by Christopher Durang, came in three parts. The first two were monologues by a man and a woman, whose lives intersect in the third. Darshan Jariwala and Mandira Bedi (a television actress) starred.
At Ambedkar Bhavan, Aditi Kaikini Upadhya performed some Hindustani music, and Shashank showed off his considerable skills on the flute.
Although Shashank was advised by flautist T R Mahalingam to try classical vocals, he stuck with his passion for the flute, and went on to become the youngest musician to perform at the ‘Sadas’ concert in Chennai.
