BANGALORE: Chief Minister Dharam Singh on Sunday said the State will invest Rs 390 crore for constructing a “hi-tech'' city, where the IT and BT sector will be provided housing facility. He was referring to the Hi-Tech City Corridor project - touted to be the biggest in the country - which has been cleared.
Speaking at the inaugural function of Bangalore Habba on Sunday evening, Singh blamed bad road conditions in the city on heavy rains. “We have taken a lot of precaution where infrastructure of the city is concerned. By February, citizens will have no complaints about road conditions,'' he assured the gathering.
The state has undertaken the task of improving 940 km of roads at a cost of Rs 135 crore, he said, adding that new roads and flyovers were being constructed for the convenience of commuters.
Meanwhile, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) stated that they had achieved a two-fold progress this year compared to the previous year.
“The three ongoing flyover projects, which were in a state of stalemate, have been whipped up into action during the year,'' a BDA statement said, adding that work on the Jayadeva Hospital flyover is being monitored round-the-clock and work carried out in three shifts.
The Hi-Tech City Corridor project will soon take off and under this project, Electronic City Phase II will be connected to the existing airport by a six-lane express highway running into 8.5 km at a cost of Rs 36 crore.
Work on the Airport Road flyover will be completed by mid-2005 and the Anand Rao Circle decongestion project by August 2005. “The Arkavathi Layout project has been brought on track to enable allotment by January 15, as assured,'' the release stated.
On their part, the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC), which also put out a release, stated that it has recently completed and inaugurated seven major projects costing Rs 162.60 crore and which includes underground drains and water supply to new wards, and multi-level car parking on JC Road.
Work has commenced on road-related projects last month, a release stated. “Foundation stones were also laid for 11 projects estimated to cost Rs 195.49 crore,'' the release added.
Looks like 2005 will be a good year for Bangaloreans. With the BDA and BCC making promises, this website’s newspaper too will closely monitor the deadlines.
THE DEADLINES Airport Road flyover - Mid-2005, Jayadeva flyover - December 2004, Underpass - February 2005, Anand Rao Circle - August 2005.
