Saplings will please him

The Times of India

BANGALORE, DEC. 18. Those who want to greet the Mayor, R. Narayanswamy, be warned. He does not want garlands, shawls or mementos presented to him. Instead, he will accept only two saplings from the organisers of any function he attends.

In an interview to Doordarshan, Bangalore, the Mayor said the saplings will be planted at a suitable spot and the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike will take care of them. "Giving saplings will satisfy me and it will also help in increasing the greenery in the city," he said.

Mr. Narayanswamy disclosed that he took this decision after seeking the blessings of the seer of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Sri Balagangadharanath Swamy, who advised him to take up the cause of bringing back greenery to the city.
