There is some hope to people who are aspiring to get sites in the BDA’s Arkavathy Layout. After much delay, Chief Minister N Dharam Singh on Thursday performed Bhoomi Pooja for the the formation of the layout.

With this, BDA has commenced the phase I of the layout formation on nearly 2,750 acre land covering 16 villages that were acquired for the layout. The work include road formation, construction of stormwater drains, site formation, including numbering, construction of culvert and side drains, and others. The layout formation has been entrusted to 18 contractors under 22 packages. Work on drinking water supply, underground drainage and electrification will be taken up under II phase, after the completion of phase I works. The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 933.47 crore.

It may be noted that the project hit a setback early this year when JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda alleged large-scale irregularities and forced the government to issue a stay. Under the project, BDA plans to construct nearly 386 kms of road and develop 275 acre of land as Civic Amenity sites. Besides, around 412.20 acres of land will be set aside for development of parks and playgrounds. A total of 31,000 sites will be formed, out of which 20,000 sites will be allotted to applicants.

Allotments from Jan 15
BDA will begin the site allotment process as scheduled on January 15. “We have fixed the deadline for January 15 and we will stick to it,” the chief minister said. The deposit amount of the unsuccessful applicants will be repaid immediately after the completion of the site allotment process and there is no doubt about it, he added.
