BANGALORE: The beleaguered Arkavathy Layout will get a shot in the arm on Thursday as Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is all set to perform the bhoomi puja on the 2,750-acre mega project.
The bhoomi puja, which was originally scheduled to be performed on Wednesday by Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh was postponed due to Cabinet expansion, which itself was being put off all these months.
The layout, falling in the Assembly constituencies of Yelahanka and Varthur, will have 20,000 plots, which will be allotted to the public by January 15.
The BDA would take the development of the layout in two stages. Site formation, roads, storm water drains, cross drainage works and layout plan boards will come up in the first phase and water supply, underground drainage system and electrification will come up in second stage.
The layout will have a total of 386 km of roads with widths varying from 9 metres to 30 metres.
Arkavathy Layout will have dual water supply lines for potable and non-potable water supply with an independent water recycling plant.
However, BDA sources say that with the mandatory period for full-payment for the sites and the design period for both the phases of infrastructure development, an allottee could start building his house by July 2005.
