Apparel Park to fill yarning gap

Bangalore: After IT and BT, Bangalore is all set to turn into a garment capital. Work on the apparel park near Doddaballapur is nearing completion, and operations will begin by March-April 2005, with nearly 26 textile industries beginning production on the 180-acre plot.
With the entire plot set aside for the apparel park being sold out, the state government will begin the process of land acquisition for the second phase. For this, the government has set aside 250 acres.
“In the first phase, of the 180 acres of acquired land, 120 acres has been allotted to industries. The remaining land is being used for roads and other infrastructure building activities. In the second phase, we are planning to acquire 250 acres of land.
There has been a great demand for land from industries keen on setting up operations here and some land has already been sold in the second phase,’’ officials of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board, the land acquiring and developing agency, told The Times of India. The park boasts of the best infrastructure facilities any textile industry could dream of. Like a common effluent treatment plant.
“The plant will treat nearly 75 per cent of used water, which will be recycled and reused by all the textile units. It will boast the best technology,’’ officials explained.
They say the apparel park will have the best roads and uninterrupted power and water supply. KPTCL has agreed to provide 11 kv power to be commissioned through two 1.5- mw lines. The BWSSB has also promised to supply 1 mgd of water for the park.
“The black topped roads will be ready by Januaryend and all other infrastructure facilities will be in place by March-April by which time production will begin,’’ they stated.
A separate plot has been set aside exclusively for training purposes. The government has written to National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and other apparel training units to utilise the facility and conduct training sessions.Buoyed by the demand for land from textile industries in the Doddaballapur apparel park, the government has also set in motion the process to acquire land for an apparel park in Bellary. Presently, 150 acres of land, set aside for the park, is being surveyed, with the acquisition process beginning soon. Simultaneously, tenders would be called for area development.
“We want to benefit from the present demand. The Bellary apparel park will become a reality soon,’’ officials added.
