DESPITE uncertainty over the implementation of the Rs 2,000-crore Bangalore-Mysore infrastructure corridor (BMIC) project, road users of the two cities can hope for partial relief with the state government promising to complete two of the four lanes of the highway by March.
Along with the BMIC project entrusted to Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE), the state government had taken up a project to convert the existing road linking Bangalore and Mysore into a four-lane highway at a cost Rs 319 crore.
The entire Bangalore-Mysore road work was split into two packages and entrusted to the Karnataka Road Development Corporation (KRDCL) for execution. While the Mysore-Maddur stretch was to be executed at a cost Rs 131 crore, the Bangalore- Maddur stretch was to be implemented on annuity basis at an estimated cost of Rs 188 crore.
Public Works Minister H D Revanna said two lanes of the four-lane road will be ready by end of March and thrown open to traffic as work was going on briskly. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the revised target of June next year.
He said the government will sort out all problems connected with the BMIC project soon as the K C Reddy expert panel, appointed to go into various aspects and allegations, is expected to submit its report within a week or 10 days. The panel has already submitted two reports pertaining to IT corridor project.
