Bangalore Habba to begin with `eco parade'

BANGALORE, DEC. 4. The second edition of Bangalore Habba, aimed at celebrating the cultural traditions of different regions, gets underway at several chosen venues in the city on Sunday.

It will begin with an "eco parade" in which several artistes will take part from Vidhana Soudha (parking lot at High Court) at 10.30 a.m. It will pass through Nrupatunga Road, Kasturba Road, and reach Vidhana Soudha via Queen Victoria Statue and the GPO.

Artistes walkway

According to the Artists Foundation For Arts (AFFA), which is coordinating the event, a "artistes walkway" is being created for the Habba on M.G. Road in which several artefacts, photographs, Lambani garment works, paintings, etc., would be exhibited.

The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh will inaugurate the Habba at Jnana Jyothi Convocation Centre on Palace Road. It will be followed by a Hindustani vocal recital by Muddumohan, veena recital by B. Kannan and a presentation by Chitra Lekha Dance Company, Birmingham.

The same day, Rajan Mishra and Sajan Mishra will present Hindustani classical vocal duet at 7.30 p.m. at Ambedkar Bhavan.

Then there is a veena and flute duet at 6.30 p.m. at Shanakra Arts Foundation, Kanakapura Road, followed by a Bharatanatyam presentation by Alarmel Valli.

At Chitrakala Parishat, Ninasam Tirugaata troupe will present the play "Dyaavanooru," directed by C. Basavalingaiah and written by Devanooru Mahadeva.

The Yell' O band will present a rock show near Edwards' Statue at 7 p.m. followed by a show by another band, STOMP.

The ongoing children's film festival at Plaza theatre will continue with the screening Shrek 1 at 10.30 a.m. (repeat screening at 3.30 p.m.), and that of Problem Child at 12.30 p.m. (repeat screening at 6.30 p.m.)

Magic carnival

Magic carnival at Cubbon Park will begin on Sunday evening, when K.S. Ramesh will light up the environment with his magic wand near Bal Bhavan in Cubbon Park.

The celebrations this year will include an exotic food festival to be organised at the Palace Grounds. It will showcase an array of culinary delights from all parts of Karnataka.

A series of folk and music performances have also been scheduled at the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike parks spread across the city. Several temples have been included this year to cater to senior citizens.

Some of the musicians who are billed to take part in the Bangalore Habba are Shashank, Praveen Godkhindi, Ustad Nishat Khan and Jayanthi Kumaresh. Other eminent cultural icons, such as Malavika Sarukkai (Bharatanatyam), Anita Ratnam (Contemporary Dance) and Sonal Mansingh (Odissi) are also taking part in it. At the Town Hall, theatre events such as Lanchavatara by Master Hirannaiah, Ranga Geethegalu by Subhadramma Mansoor, Harikathe by Sri Achyuta Dasaru and poetry and Yakshagana by Shathavadhani R. Ganesh and Mantap Prabhakar Upadhayaya will be organised.
