Sporadic violence mars agitation

Bangalore: A student and a school peon suffered injuries, around 10 cars were damaged and five Bangalore Municipal Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses and some commercial complexes were pelted with stones by pro-Kannada activists and members of various other organisations.

After dispersing from the Vidhan Soudha, the activists set fire to a Tamil Nadu-registered car on Crescent Road, partially burning its front portion. The injured student and the peon belonged to the Bhartiya Seva Dal School on Kumara Krupa Road. They suffered injuries when miscreants pelted the ARC building, located opposite the school, with stones even as students pleaded with them to spare the building.

The glass panels and the wind screens of parked cars on Crescent Road, near Shivananda Circle, Embassy Centre and Embassy apartment were also damaged. Miscreants also pelted the BMTC buses with stones on K G Road, K R Road and Shivananda Circle. The Accident Relief Care (ARC) building, belonging to Dr Ajay Singh, son of Chief Minister Dharam Singh, on the Kumar Krupa Road, Kanija Bhavan on Race Course Road, a book store in Shivananda Circle, a commercial complex on Kumara Krupa Road, a Corporation Bank's ATM near the Chalukya hotel were pelted with stones and the glass panels of all these buildings were damaged.

Cauvery, Vaibhav and Swagath theatres were provided with police security for screening of non-Kannada movies. However, the day's shows were cancelled. Traffic on major roads including Sheshadri Road, K R Circle, Basaweshwara Circle, Shivananda Circle and Anand Rao Circle were disrupted for nearly three hours.
