Lack of infrastructure may put City in chaos

Bangalore: The City is likely to end up in chaos unless immediate measures are initiated to tackle the infrastructure shortfalls plaguing it, Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) President Manandi Suresh warned on Thursday.

Bangalore accounted for a lion’s share of the State’s Domestic Product and attracted outsourcing projects from all over the world, he said in a release.

He said infrastructure projects tend to be capital intensive, requiring sound planning and allocation of funds. But such projects need to be planned years in advance, keeping in view the projected growth of the City.
He lamented that even the long-planned Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project and the International Airport project had fallen victims to controversies.

Such delays and dithering on the part of the authorities concerned would prove costly in terms of lost investments and the collapse of the confidence of private investors.

He expressed serious concern over the inordinate delay in the completion of crucial infrastructure projects in the State and urged the State Government to clear the bottlenecks in the way of implementing these projects.
Suresh said the federation was willing to organise a major conference involving the Government and other industry associations in the State to discuss and recommend ways to resolve the infrastructure crisis looming large over the State in general and the city in particular.
