E-City flyover unnecessary?

Is the Government's proposal to build a road-on-road all the way up to Electronic City a good idea? Krishnamurthy Nagarajan begs to differ:

Many of you would have read the news a couple of days back about the govt's decision (or proposal) to build a single-exit 9km long flyover all the way to the electronic city!

This, I think, would be a disaster and create much more problems than it solves. What's the guarantee that the techies in the e-city wouldn't buy more cars and clog the flyover itself, as soon as it's ready ? In fact it surely will happen. And life under the flyover would become dark and miserable, the Sirsi flyover being the best/worst example.

And during the construction of it, life for all the commuters along Hosur rd and for those working in offices/factories along the road and for those living in the adjoining villages would be even more miserable. As observed by me and many of us, it's not the road that's the bottleneck - it's wide enough, but there are several cross-roads and so, at these junctions, the traffic gets really jammed.

So, how about a different approach - build a few (may be two or three) underpasses at some of these junctions, such as the Begur jn so that the thru traffic can flow uninterrupted ?

Added to that, the govt should think of building a multi-storeyed car-parking bay somewhere at the beginning of this stretch of the Hosur road where the techno-coolies (self included, but I am not working at e-city :-) can park their cars and take a luxury bus
(non-stop, provided by govt or their company) and go straight to e-city. This would largely remove the bottlenecks on Hosur rd upto e-city.
