Koramangala residents on the warpath

Angry residents set a deadline
Times of India

Koramangala: Commuters at Koramangala’s inner ring road, beware. If civic work (read BWSSB’s pipe-laying exercise) is not completed in a fortnight, residents will go up in arms and not allow traffic to ply in their bylanes.

Residents of Koramangala on Wednesday staged a protest against the massive pit dug up by BWSSB more than a year ago, and leaving a gaping pit in its wake at a snarling traffic intersection. The BCC, even if it wants to asphalt the road, cannot because work has not yet been completed.

The biggest problem because of this is traffic diversion; vehicles ply in residential areas including those which have been marked as total residential zone. Even buses have been plying on the 16th and 18th main roads.
According to Ramamurthy, secretary of Koramangala Residents Welfare Association, it is the first time in the city that a pit of such a massive scale has been dug up. This is usually done for small cables, and not huge pipes. The reason for digging was ostensibly to construct 10x20 feet sump. The construction fell apart with bricks collapsing and was then redone with reinforced steel.

Members of the Association said that the new BWSSB chairperson, when confronted with the problem, said he had just inherited it and would try to finish work in 15 days
