Kannada film industry representatives will meet on Friday to try and end the deadlock over the moratorium on release of other language films.

Theatre owners, meanwhile, have decided to go ahead with their plan of screening new releases of other languages on Friday. Karnataka Film Exhibitors’ Federation R.P. Odugoudar said three films will be screened — Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao! (Hindi), Alien vs Predator (English) and King of Bollywood. “We are firm on screening these films. But theatre owners will attend the meeting on Friday. The moratorium does not have any legal backing,’’ he added.

Actor-MP Ambarish, who has been appointed the ‘troubleshooter’, held separate meetings with theatre owners, producers, directors and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) president H.D. Gangaraju on Thursday. However, they could not arrive at a consensus.

“Friday’s meeting will be attended by artistes, producers, exhibitors and distributors. The moratorium issue will be taken up for discussion at the meeting,’’ Gangaraju told The Times of India. The meeting has been necessitated in view of theatre owners defying the moratorium to screen new non-Kannada releases. Besides, the moratorium has been questioned in the High Court, which has sent notices to the KFCC and government.
