Bangalore: Smitten by criticism for non-performance, the coalition government on Tuesday set deadlines for civic agencies — the BCC, BDA, Bescom and the PWD — to complete infrastructure projects in and around Bangalore.

Briefing reporters after a three-hour meeting with heads of all civic agencies, chief minister N. Dharam Singh said the government was committed to improving infrastructure in and around Bangalore.

“We are aware that the roads are bad. But repair work can start only after November 15, when the rain stops. I have directed the agencies to prepare a comprehensive plan to develop roads in and around Bangalore,’’ Singh said.

To ensure better coordination between civic agencies, specially in the laying of roads and its maintenance, a metropolitan corporation on the lines of such bodies in Mumbai and Kolkata was mooted at the meeting, the chief minister said.

KEY DECISIONS

•Trucks and other heavy vehicles will be staggered on Hosur road, Ring Road and Bannerghatta Road during peak hours.
•Five traffic junctions on the Hosur will be brought under the Bangalore traffic police.
•BWSSB to complete laying of pipelines in Koramangala in 15 days.
•BCC commissioner will start road work of Koramangala road from the 16th day.
•Local bodies having surplus funds should take up cementing work of roads in a phased manner — 50 Kms every year.
•Wherever PWD road passes through a local body, a maintenance tax should be paid.

•Diary Circle underpass (Rs 6.50 crore) November 11, 2004.
•Jayadeva Flyover December 15, 2004.
•Jayadeva Underpass (Rs 17 crore) February 15, 2005.
•Airport road flyover March 15, 2005.
•Airport road loops (Rs 27.65 crore) June 15, 2005.
•Ananda Rao Circle flyover (Rs 27.6 crore) August 28, 2005.
•Cubbon Park tertiary treatment plant (Rs 3.9 cr) December 31, 2004.
•Arkavathy Layout (Rs 934 crore) January 15, 2005.
•Peripheral Ring Road (108 km length) Rs 550 crore.

•Bannerghatta Road (Rs 5.10 crore, 4 km): February 2005.
•Airport Varthur Road (Rs 16 crore, 8.6 km): March 2005.
•Sarjapur Road (Rs 9 crore, 4.2 km): March 2005.

WORKS UNDER CONSIDERATION


•Seven km road of Parappana Agrahara gate to Sarjapur road at the cost of Rs seven crore- Nine months from the date of entrustment.
•Seven km of Bannerghatta road from Basavapura gate to Bettadaspur at the cost of Rs 7 crore —-Nine months from the date of entrustment.
