‘Who designed Metro? Show me his marks card’

BANGALORE: High Court judge Justice Rammohan Reddy hasn’t slept since work on the Metro rail project commenced on Vani Vilas Road near Basavanagudi where his house is situated. His neighbours are also facing the same problem.

While hearing BMRCL’s application seeking that the stay on Metro work near Chinnaswamy stadium be lifted, Justice Reddy pulled up BMRCL officials for the “bad design” of the Metro project.

“You (Metro people) can knock at my house door at any time in the night, I will open the door, because I haven’t slept properly at night after the commencement of Metro work on Vani Vilas Road. Metro people have been carrying out construction work at night for the past three years,” Justice Reddy said.

“Who is the engineer who designed the Metro project in Bangalore? I want to see his marks card. Technology is very advanced in European countries for such projects. But we have adopted an old technology and plan prepared by old engineers. Why can’t you hire new engineers for the project?” Justice Reddy questioned while turning down the request of BMRCL that the stay on Metro work at Chinnaswamy Stadium be lifted.

The court extended the stay on the work near the stadium till further orders.

It also expressed displeasure over BMRCL’s slow pace of work.

On February 6, 2010, a single judge bench of the High Court had stayed the Metro work near Chinnaswamy Stadium, after hearing the petition filed by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

KSCA has challenged the acquisition of 3,000 square metres of land belonging to KSCA for Metro. It has stated that, in the earlier notification, KSCA land was not included for Metro project.

But later, the land was included.

KSCA has stated that the renovation of the stadium was under way and it would take two years to complete.
