BANGALORE: Mayor SK Nataraj announced on Friday that work on the Tagore Circle underpass would be completed within the next six months.
He made the announcement while inspecting the work there. He said that the underpass would reduce traffic congestion in the area.
The Mayor said that more than 30 per cent of the work on the underpass was over and the rest would be completed soon. The underpass, that is being built at a cost of Rs 19 crore, faced stiff opposition in the past.
There were many hurdles, including delay in shifting electric cables and a BWSSB water pipeline.
“Work on the service road from Netkallappa Circle to Gandhi Bazaar Circle would be completed in the next one month”, he said.
The Mayor said he too opposed the underpass when it was first proposed, but since the works had already begun it was only right to complete it. He said many trees were cut to make way for the underpass and that for every tree that was cut, three trees would be planted.
Residents complained the works were being carried out in a disorderly fashion and construction material was all over the place. Some residents complained that the MLA of the area, Hemachandra Sagar, should have also been invited to see the progress of the work.
