Metro Phase 1 to be completed ahead of time: CM

The Phase One of the ‘Namma Metro’ is likely to be completed before the scheduled time of December 2010.

Replying to a query by BJP member Professor M R Doreswamy on the progress of the metro rail project, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said though the scheduled time to complete phase one is December 2010, efforts are on to complete the project ahead of the schedule.
He said the metro rail will be completed at a cost of Rs 18,000 crore and the first phase will be completed at a cost of Rs 2,700 crore.

“The contribution of the Union Government is Rs 400 crore, while the remaining amount is contributed by the State,” he added.

The Chief Minister said the phase two between Swastik and Peenya will be completed by 2011 and the third phase will be completed by 2013.
He added that the Government has also decided to extend the project in four directions, for which a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared. He also said the reaches include Byappanahalli- White Field, Puttenahalli- Anjanapura, Mysore Road- Kengeri and RV Road- Electronic City.
