High Court stays BBMP’s park plan

High Court stays BBMP’s park plan
Bangalore: June 30, DHNS:

The Karnataka High Court has stayed BBMP’s plans for the construction of a park in Padmanabhanagar.

The park was to be constructed by demolishing the Srigiri hill situated near the 10th main in the area. The petitioners Subbaraya and two others had filed a PIL challenging the BBMP decision.

They said that the area consisted of 600 trees of different varieties and 160 medicinal plants. Some of the trees were more than 30 years old and cutting them for the sake of a park would cause damage, the petitioners argued. BBMP had planned to clear the entire hill and build a modernised park.
