Bangalore: Bangalore’s showpiece street — a remodelled Vittal Mallya Road, set to be the metro’s model — opened on Thursday. The prestigious and upmarket address, besides being a fashion landmark, was formally thrown open by chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.
Inaugurating the road built to international standards, the chief minister said: “This is a road of excellence. Vijay Mallya has continued the legacy of his father to serve and develop Karnataka. I urge other cooperative sectors and private organizations to come forward and help the government improve the standard of Karnataka.’’
“Just as he has taken interest in investing across the world, I urge Mallya to focus on Bangalore’s development too. He has begun with this road.’’
To which Vijay Mallya said: “The development and maintenance of this road was handed to me in 1997, and since then I have been trying to make this road a benchmark for all other roads in the city. The speciality of this road is that everything is underground. This will ensure the road is not dug up by various civic agencies.’’
CMD of Prestige Group Irfan Razack said, “The road has been designed using state-of-the-art technology in order to present a picture perfect boulevard, while it is robust enough to last several decades, enduring heavy traffic. Our aim has also been to make a model road which can set a precedent for future urban roads in the city. Such roads are also costeffective as they reduce expenditure from repeated repairs.’’

A resident of Mallya Road has this advice for pet owners: “As this road reflects international standards, it is our responsibility to keep the road clean and tidy. Don’t let your pets dirty it.’’ WHAT MAKES
