BMRCL to denotify land acquired for Metro
Bangalore, June 7, DHNS:

The Karnataka High Court on Monday disposed of a petition challenging the land acquisition for the metro rail project at South-end Circle in Jayanagar after the Government in a joint memo said that it will denotify a portion of land acquired for construction of a metro station.

It is a partial victory for M A Lakshmidevamma and others, who had challenged the land acquisition by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The Principal secretary, Department of Commerce and Industries, Special Land Acquisition, Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board and Managing Director, BMRCL in a joint memo had submitted that they are denotifying 824.07 sq meter of land acquired for construction of metro rail station at South-end Circle.

The petitioners had challenged the acquisition of 1207.570 sq meter of land.

However, the three departments in their joint memo said that they are denotifying 824.07 sq meters of land stating that they just require 383.50 sq meters to construct the railway station. Justice K L Manjunath disposed of the petition.

Batch of petitions

The acquisition was for constructing a station for the metro rail’s North-South Corridor connecting Yeshwanthpur and Jayanagar. Several petitions challenging this acquisition were filed before the High Court, which have been dismissed. The latest was the matter related to the acquisition of property belonging to Zakirunissa and others.

They had challenged the acquisition stating that their land was not included in the original alignment.
