BBMP to plant five lakh saplings
Bangalore, June 5, DHNS:

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) celebrated the world environment day with great pomp and show in different parts of the city.

The main function was held at Malleshwaram where Mayor S K Nataraj inaugurated the renovated market building and the organic garbage disposal machine.

Duty

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said, it is the duty of the residents to help the local government to keep the city clean and green.

The BBMP proposed to plant at least five lakh saplings in the next one year, he informed.
He said the city is producing around 5,000 tonnes of garbage, the disposal of which is a big challenge.

The residents are required to separate the organic and wet garbage from inorganic garbage. In this connection, he said the setting up of a machine at Malleshwaram for converting organic waste into manure is a big step.

Malleshwaram MLA Ashwath Narayana told the audience that many eco-friendly initiatives had been taken up in the Malleshwaram area such as Zero Garbage, rain water harvesting, garbage segregation, tree plantation etc.

Another function was organised at Rajarajeshwari Nagar where the local MLA M Srinivas planted saplings.

On the occasion, school children participated in an Environment Rally.
