Once complete, a proposed new alignment by Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation from IIM-B to Nagavara could cut through the congestion that currently plagues commuters attempting to negotiate Bannerghatta Road, Shivajinagar, Tannery Road and Nagavara.
As Phase 1 gathers steam, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has approved the

new 21.1 km metro line, estimated to cost a whopping Rs 5,421 crore.
The work will be taken up along with metro phase 2, which is the extension of East-West and North-South corridors. The state’s highpowered committee has also approved the extension of metro alignment from Hesaraghatta cross to Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre in North and up to Puttenahalli in the South, Kengeri in the West to ITPL in the East. The Bangalore The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has planned a fresh alignment for the Metro Rail between IIMB and Nagavara via Shivajinagar and Cantonment railway station for the benefit of software companies on Bannerghatta Road, IIM(B) students and commuters on Outer Ring Road (ORR) and from Jayadeva hospital.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has in principle approved the new alignment based on a survey conducted by RITES, which found it made sense to extend the Metro to Nagavara and Shivajinagar to cater to the crowds of people in these areas, according to sources.

It is hoped the extension of the Metro to these parts will help reduce traffic congestion on the busy Bannerghatta, Shivajinagar and Tannery Roads.

An underground station

may have to be built at Shivajinagar to avoid demolition of buildings, sources add.
The line stretching over 21.1 km will cost Rs 5,421 crore to build, says BMRCL director (projects and planning) B. S. Sudhir Chandra, explaining that it will touch IIM-B, Jayadeva Hospital, Dairy Circle, Vellara Junction, Shivajinagar, Tannery Road and Nagavara and intersect the M.G. Road interchange station, being constructed under Reach 1 between Byappanahalli and h Chinnaswamy Cricket Sta , dium.
The new alignment is part y of Metro phase 2. A d Detailed Project Report d (DPR) is expected to be subg mitted to the DMRC for 1 approval after soil testing d along the changed route.
