Mayor goes on whirlwind tour
Bangalore, May 12, DH News Service:

On a whirlwind tour of the City, newly-elected mayor S K Nataraj took stock of the development projects being implemented and also inaugurated a few new ones, on Thursday.

The mayor also inspected encroachments on the Storm Water Drains (SWD) and said, with impending monsoon the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will take immediate action in this regard.

Interacting with mediapersons, after visiting the Basavangudi constituency, Nataraj said: “The roads are in good condition, but the SWDs need to be desilted and cleared. We intend to allocate more funds towards this programme.”

Nataraj expressed his unhappiness on Manjunath Colony where he found rampant encroachment on the SWD. He directed the officials, including BBMP Chief Engineer Ananth Swamy, to clear them within next 10 days.

Meeting on May 19

The mayor said the raging water crisis in the City will be discussed with the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) officials on May 19. “On May 20 a trip will be organised to T K Halli pumping station to inspect and take stock of the water table situation,” he added.

Nataraj, during his tour, inaugurated a low cost housing project in Bhovi Colony and a Samparka Kendra at the BBMP Maternity Hospital in N R Colony. During his visit, the mayor said measures will be take to upgrade the Corporation Hospital at Basavanagudi.
“Measures will be taken to develop Basavangudi and a skywalk will be constructed for pedestrians in front of the BBMP Maternity Hospital,” he promised.

He said he will be visiting all the 198 wards in the City shortly to review the progress of the development works being implemented. During the inspection, MLA Ravi Kumar stressed that there was a need for a well-equipped market in Basavangudi, as there were several street-side traders and petty shop owners in the area. “We are planning to convert Basavanagudi into a garbage-free area,” the mayor added.

Opposition fumes

In light of the Nataraj’s visit to Basavangudi constituency, Corporator K Chandrashekhar came down heavily on the mayor for skipping Hanumanthnagar ward.

“The mayor visited all the wards, but skipped Hanumanthnagar. He is neglecting those wards where Congress candidates have emerged victorious in the recent BBMP polls. The Opposition leaders were not invited for the inauguration of the Samparka Kendra,” he alleged.

He claimed that nothing can be achieved by just visiting six wards in one Assembly constituency and appealed that the mayor should to treat all the wards equally. “The mayor should have a clear vision on such issues,” he added.
