Ravindra Kalakshetra, Nayana to soon get a makeover
Sridevi Kalasad, Bangalore, May 11, DH News Service:

The two iconic structures of Bangalore City for organising literary and cultural events –– Ravindra Kalakshetra and Nayana Auditorium, will get a new look in the next few months.

The Department of Kannada and Culture has taken up a Rs 1.25-crore project to renovate the two structures on J C Road. The renovation work has been in progress for the past two years and its second phase will be complete in a couple of months, the Department director Manu Baligar told Deccan Herald.

An amount of Rs four lakh is being spent to construct a ramp on the left side of Kalakshetra to help physically challenged persons and those using wheel chair enter the auditorium.

Currently, the organisers find it difficult to conduct events during monsoon in Kalakshetra as the roof develops leakages. This will be fixed during renovation and the 200 damaged windows will be replaced with reflective glasses to enhance the beauty of Kalakshetra, Baligar added.

Top priority has been given to ensuring cleanliness. A small stone wall in circular structure will come up on the right side of the Kalakshetra to display the day’s events. The north side of the Kalakshetra will have a new look with Roman model seating arrangements. Facilities would be provided to organise exhibitions of books and handicrafts. The manager’s office in the first floor will get a corporate touch.

At Nayana

New seating arrangement facilities will be made at Nayana auditorium. The seating arrangement is modelled based on the one in Kalakshetra. Additional care has been taken to give a new touch to the dais in the auditorium. The entire floor will be carpeted and granite stones are being installed in the front portion of the auditorium.
