Heavy rains give Bangalore a dry Sunday

It was a tension-filled Sunday at JP Nagar, Koramangala and Jayanagar with tanks drying up after a disruption in water supply in the city. Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) officials said that there was a shortage in water supply to the city on Sunday after transformers at the Tataguni and Somanahalli substations encountered technical snags.
"A 50kva transformer at Tataguni supplies power to pump water to the city. However, around 12.45 pm on Saturday, some earthing problem was encountered. This could have occurred due to the heavy downpour. There were also some technical issues faced at Somanahalli," a BWSSB official said.
Residents of Malleswaram 3rd Cross also had to face the music, with the Sunday calendar going awry. Water supply was disrupted in most areas of Bangalore for nearly three to four hours, with some areas bearing the brunt in the morning, and others during afternoon and evening. However, BWSSB officials said that the issue would be resolved by Tuesday. "We could supply only 250mld instead of the regular 500mld to Bangalore on Saturday. Though the transformers were repaired, Saturday's supply shortage spilled into Sunday. The issue will be sorted out by Tuesday," said BWSSB chief engineer, Venkat Raju.
