BMTC to enforce traffic discipline

BMTC to enforce traffic discipline
Bangalore, April 25, DHNS:

Drivers of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) overtaking, not stopping at designated bus stops, driving in a haphazard manner on roads could be thing of the past soon.

The BMTC began a traffic discipline enforcement week that started here on Saturday. Under this initiative, the State run corporation hopes to make the week long campaign on traffic discipline effective by deploying more than 300 of its own staff and 400 home guards to enforce strict adherence of traffic/road discipline at 150 high potential bus stops across the City.

The week was inaugurated by minister for transport R Ashoka at the Shikshakara Sadan bus stop, near Cauvery Bhavan here.

According to Syed Zameer Pasha, managing director of BMTC, the campaign emphasis will be placed on educating bus drivers on importance of adherence to traffic rules. “It will be a week long aggressive awareness campaign and will lay focus on drivers stopping vehicles, only at designated bus stops. Our officials will also educate passengers on basic safety rules, such as not coming on to the road from bus stops, proper way to board and alight from buses etc” said Pasha.

Transport minister R Ashok, who spoke to reporters after the inauguration, said a proposal to construct a new bus terminus at Kalasipalya by BMTC would take off soon. “I hear that the local MLA has reservations on land to be given for this purpose. But, we will take the proposal forward” the minister said.
