HC adjourns KSCA land acquisition case

HC adjourns KSCA land acquisition case
Bangalore, March 11, DH News Service:

The High Court has adjourned the matter related to the acquisition of land at Chinnaswamy stadium by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Hearing a petition by BMRCL, which had moved the High Court seeking to vacate the stay, Justice Abdul Nazir has adjourned the matter.

The BMRCL had submitted that the project is beyond schedule and the IPL matches and the Ranji Trophy matches scheduled will further delay the project and sought to vacate the stay.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had moved the High Court over the acquisition and had obtained the stay. The petitioner had stated there is a difference between the land to be acquired in the preliminary notification and the final notification.

The preliminary notification dated March 2, 2009 says that 3781.211 sq meters will be acquired for the project, while the final notification puts the figure at 3322.91 sq meters.
The petitioners said the technical committee had stated that the stadium will be safe and if more land is required, the adjoining BRV Grounds land will be considered for this purpose. Justice Abdul Nazeer adjourned the matter.

When the petitioners raised objections about the heavy machinery belonging to BMRCL stationed within the Stadium premises stating that these equipment near the gates will interrupt the movement of public during the match days, the Court orally said that the petitioners and the respondents should discuss and settle it amicably.
