City weather heating up twice faster compared to average rate of global warming

Once known as the "air-conditioned (AC) city", Bangalore is now warming up more than twice faster compared to the average rate of global warming.
Data obtained from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) shows that the garden city's average temperature increased by 1.8 degrees celsius over the past 100 years compared to the global warming average of 0.8 degrees celsius in the same period.
"This is more than twice the rate of average global warming," said J Srinivasan, a professor at the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and department of mechanical engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc). He attributes this worrisome trend to reducing green cover and rapid urbanisation that has turned the city into a concrete jungle.
