Two-way traffic allowed on JP Nagar underpass

Residents of JP Feb. 15: Residents of JP Nagar, Puttenahalli, Kothanur and surrounding area can heave a sigh of relief from Tuesday with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) deciding to allow two-way traffic between JP Nagar and Puttenahalli on J.P. Nagar 24 Main Road. Traffic was disrupted after work on the Puttenahalli underpass began two years ago.
Tree branches and debris are being cleared to ensure smooth traffic flow. Officials of BWSSB and Bescom are conducting repairs which will be completed by Tuesday morning before traffic is allowed on the stretch.

Deccan Chronicle carried a news report on Sunday highlighting the problems being faced by residents and commuters due to the delay in completing the project.

Following the report, BBMP authorities had promised to expedite the work and allow at least oneway traffic.

Crash barriers have been placed on either side of the road as a safety measure.
Since the surface stretch of the underpass is wide, there is scope to widen the road without creating bottlenecks, said a BBMP engineer.

The underpass will connect the southern parts of Bengaluru with Jayanagar, Banashankari and Bannerghatta Road and is expected to ease traffic movement particularly during the rush hours in the morning and evening.

The project was undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 23 crore at Puttenahalli Junction and was to be completed in 10 months after it was launched in May 2008. It should have been completed in March last year.
