Traffic on MG Road to be hit from March 1

Bangalore: With Metro work getting into top gear on M G Road, citizens can expect more traffic bottlenecks from March 1. The hardship is expected to last three months.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd is all set to commence work on its M G Road station and at the Jogupalya Junction — blocking both roads completely. The stretch between Trinity Circle and Webb’s Junction has been partly closed. From March 1, vehicular movement on the entire stretch will be blocked off.
At the same time, the work at Jogupalya Junction is also set to start and vehicles moving from Indiranagar towards Trinity Junction have to take a long detour. Traffic at Trinity Junction, one of the city’s busiest junctions, could come to a standstill. There’s no change in traffic pattern on the Anil Kumble Circle to Cauvery Emporium Junction.
WHAT IT MEANS
The trouble begins with Trinity Circle, a crucial junction between Indiranagar, Old Airport Road leading to Hosur Road-Bannerghatta Road Junction, MG Road - Whitefield, will be closed for the next three months. From March 1 till completion of erection of pillars and first floor of the station, traffic will not be allowed on the road. Work at Jogupalya Junction will take about the same duration. Bangalore: Traffic on MG Road will be affected due to Metro work from March 1. The trouble begins with diversion of traffic moving from Indiranagar towards Trinity Circle. Vehicles will be forced to take a diversion at Anjaneya Temple Junction and move towards Kensington Junction near Ulsoor Lake. However, they cannot take a right turn there, as the road is dug up near MEG Centre. They have to proceed towards gurdwara and take a U-turn.
The trouble is that buses and trucks cannot take a right turn here, as there is not enough place. This will force them to get into some narrow lanes in the residential area to reach either Coles Park or Webb’s Junction.
Currently, many trucks moving towards Hosur Road and Bannerghatta Road from Old Madras Road use Trinity Junction as a transit point. Now, they have to take the Ring Road and travel an extra 30 km. Consequently, the traffic on ring roads will increase dramatically.
Motorists moving towards Old Madras Road or Old Airport Road from MG Road will have an equally tough time. They have to either go around Ulsoor Lake, which already has heavy traffic movement, or move around Garuda Mall to enter the Old Airport Road. This will further complicate traffic movement around MG Road.
