ELEVATED 9 KM EXPRESSWAY TO OPEN ON FRIDAY

The elevated expressway which stretches for 9 km from Central Silk Board (CSB) to Electronic City will be thrown open to the public on Friday, finally offering respite to commuters from long journeys on congested roads.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, project director, National Highways Authority of India (Bengaluru), R.K. Gupta said the work on the elevated stretch has been completed fully and only a small portion of work is remaining which will not affect the movement of vehicles on the road.

The project costing Rs 765 crore initiated by a consortium of three companies Soma-Nagarjuna-Maytas was taken up on the Bengaluru-Hosur section of NH-7 under public private partnership (PPP). The project faced many delays causing a huge amount of inconvenience to the public. "The opening of the elevated expressway will benefit industrialists and techies to a great extent. It will cut down travelling time to Hosur and Electronic City as well. A majority of the industrialists in Bengaluru have their firms based in Electronic City and this expressway will help them immensely," said J. Crasta, president, Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Though the completion of the project will provide much-needed succour to those commuting to Hosur and Electronic City, traffic may pile up at the toll gate, said president of Outer Ring Road Companies Association S. Vishwanath. A toll fee, however, may not be charged for the first 10 days. Meanwhile, a tentative toll fee has been fixed, which will be finalised shortly, said NHAI officials.
