BBMP Task Force to check illegal hoardings
Bangalore, Jan 5, DH News Service:

A task force headed by a BBMP Joint Commissioner will be set up soon to check illegal hoardings in the city, Urban Development Minister S Suresh Kumar said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters after holding a meeting with BBMP officials, he said the task force will ensure that all hoardings are put up as per the bye-law. A large number of advertisement agencies have violated the bye-law with respect to size. Several hoardings in the City are much bigger than what has been stipulated in the rule book, he explained.

Besides, he said directions have been issued to the officials to strictly implement the ban on erecting cutouts, banners and hoardings in the one kilometer radius of Vidhana Soudha. However, one can and is allowed to erect them for only few hours by taking permission on special occasions, he added.

The CM will shortly convene a meeting of all the Bangalore MLAs to discuss about illegal hoardings. The BBMP will take appropriate steps to pull down all illegal hoardings in the coming days, the minister said.

Second round of meeting

Meanwhile, the BBMP officials have said that a second round of meeting will ensue between the minister and the authorities to ascertain the action to be taken against these advertising agencies.

“In all likelihood the minister may provide us with the directions in writing to proceed further,” said a Palike official.
