BANGALORE: If the state government’s proposal is accepted the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) area of control could increase till the Bengaluru International Airport.
The current BBMP boundary that reaches up to the Delhi Public School will be extended by 500 metres on either side till the airport to regulate unauthorised structures, Virupaksha Mysore, BBMP Joint Commissioner (Yelahanka) said.
Virupaksha said the proposal had been doing the rounds for a while now. If it is implemented, the BBMP can ensure that the stretch is kept clean and will be able to keep a check on encroachments that can hinder traffic flow in the stretch.
He also mentioned that the BIAL had initially demanded that the stretch comes under the jurisdiction of BBMP.
With this the BBMP can regulate construction of high -rise buildings in the area.
Construction of structures that are not in accordance with the BBMP’s rules and those that raise security concerns would also be regulated, Mysore said and added that the government and the BIAL have to decide the structural specifications for high-rise buildings.
BBMP officials say that civic amenities, overall development of the area, sanitation and maintenance will come under the Palike once the proposal is accepted.
There will be no dumping yard of the Palike in this stretch. Sources said the stretch could have a separate budget allocated for it if the new zone is not included under the Yelahanka zonal division.
