BJP WORKERS SHOUT SLOGANS AGAINST GOWDA FOR REMARKS AGAINST CM

There was chaos in the city on Monday as hundreds of angry BJP party workers took to the streets, protesting against the abusive language used by Janata Dal (S) supremo and former prime minister H.D.
Deve Gowda against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday, holding up traffic in several areas.
Meanwhile, at Hemmigepura agitators turned up half-naked to protest against the NICE corridor, and continued to cook their meals on the roads.

However, the agitation was peaceful, according to deputy superintendent of police in-charge Shivashankar.

While a large number of BJP party workers blocked the roads in Gandhinagar and Kengeri and wore black strips across their mouths at Chalukya Circle, nearly 800 of them held up traffic on the Bengaluru-Mysore highway near the NICE corridor around 11 am demanding a public apology from Mr Gowda for his comments. Traffic came to a standstill as the agitators gathered near the Kempamma Devi temple shouting slogans.

Traffic crawled on Raj Bhavan Road, at Thimmaiah Circle and Nrupatunga Road and surrounding areas as hundreds of protestors assembled at the Basaveshwara circle for a silent protest.

Muttanna said a couple of diversions had to be made to restore smooth flow of traffic in the area.

"We had no difficulty in controlling the traffic as the roads are wide and we had other options as well," Mr Muttanna said.

DCP (central) G. Ramesh said there was no law and order problem in his jurisdiction during the protest that lasted for nearly 45 minutes. "Nearly 150 agitators dispersed after a while," he said.

Byatarayanapura traffic inspector V. Mariyappa said: "While the protestors left after about half-anhour, it took some time for order to be restored on the roads."
