BBMP glad people like art on city walls

Bangalore: People traversing the city’s streets have been pleasantly surprised by the paintings on public walls in important thoroughfares. The paintings are part of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s ambitious “beautification” project that has since become a talking point among the chattering classes.

The paintings can been seen in areas with high pedestrian and vehicular movement. Mostly located in the west and central zones in the city, BBMP officials claim that there is no specific fund allocation for the ambitious project. The project is being implemented by chief engineers of these zones.

“We have received a lot of positive feedback from citizens. The paintings have served their purpose. Now, people think twice before littering,” an official said.

According to BBMP officials, the walls are being painted to prevent them from being defaced.

They will also help advertise the State’s tourist destinations besides highlighting Karnataka’s rich and vibrant culture.

“Such ambitious projects need to be carefully planned. It will be a waste if it is implemented without any plan and particular concepts have to be evolved,” said Manjunath S., an artist and student at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, who has been given the contract to paint the walls between the Ananda Rao Circle flyover and Yelahanka.
