There is no EIA report, says Namma Metro

BANGALORE: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Tuesday submitted to the Karnataka High Court that there is no document as per minutes relating to the environment impact assessment (EIA) study done by a committee headed by A.N. Yellappa Reddy.

The State made this submission in a memo it filed before a Division Bench comprising Justice V. Gopala Gowda and Justice B.V. Nagaratna.

The Bench is hearing applications by BMRCL seeking court permission for temporarily taking over a small part of Cubbon Park for the Namma Metro project.

The Bench had, on an earlier occasion, directed BMRCL to file minutes of the meeting held by the committee.

In the memo, BMRCL said an environmental committee was constituted under Mr. Reddy.

The file containing the proceedings of the committee between 2004 and 2009 were produced when a public interest litigation petition and other cases came to be heard in the court.

It said Mr. Reddy had resigned from the committee and enclosed a copy of the resignation letter too. The petitioners sought time to file their response to the memo.

The Bench adjourned the case.
