Rs 22,000-cr Vision Plan gets a boost

BANGALORE: The official estimation has not been less than Rs 5,000 crore. This is the amount expected to be generated when the longpending Akrama-Sakrama scheme is implemented.
The cabinet has approved the scheme on Thursday and the notification is expected to be issued soon but the BBMP has already planned for the utilisation of funds which will be collected under the scheme.
According to the BBMP commissioner Bharat Lal Meena, the money generated from the Akrama-Sakrama scheme will used for implementing the infrastructure work that were announced under the Rs 22,000 crore project by the government recently.
He said from the Akrama Sakrama scheme the BBMP can expect about Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 crore from the scheme.
Sources in the BBMP Town Planning Division told Express said the process of framing the rules would take a week’s time. However, before implementing the scheme, there would be a huge awareness campaign about the revised scheme.
The scheme would benefit over seven lakh property owners in the city besides increasing the revenue of the BBMP as these properties will come now under tax net.
Dr Reji Thomas, Vice President, Koramangala Resident Welfare Association said,” To an extent it is useful for the public but when you look at the violations, it would not have happened without the approval from the local engineers and therefore the penalty should be imposed on both the public as well as the BBMP engineers.” Secondly, the government should ensure that there would be no violations in the future and the engineers who approve unauthorised building plans should also be fined.
There should be a transparency both in the process of implementation of the scheme as well as the utilisation of money generated from the scheme, he added.
