Richmond Circle flyover to be signal-free

Richmond Circle flyover to be signal-free
Bangalore, Dec 9, DH News Service:

At long last, the chaos on the Richmond Circle flyover appears to be coming to an end with authorities deciding to effect changes from December 12.

Probably, this was the only flyover in the country where a traffic constable had stand atop to control the traffic coming from Richmond Road and Double Road.

The City Traffic Police have proposed to change the traffic movement on Richmond Circle flyover, starting December 12 on an experimental basis, for rectifying the hold-up caused by the signal at the top and the on-going metro work on M G Road.

Cars and two-wheelers (LMV) coming from Richmond Road on up-ramp will move towards Double Road instead of Mission Road. Buses and other heavy vehicles, however, will not climb the up-ramp at Richmond Road.

Traffic will flow from the up-ramp on Mission Road towards Residency Road. Hence, Mission Road down ramp will be converted into up-ramp.

Consequently, motorists have to comply with the following traffic instructions:
Traffic from Richmond Road towards Lalbagh Main Gate and Basavanagudi- Earlier, motorists used to climb the flyover at Richmond Circle and descend at Mission Road for proceeding towards Lalbagh Main Gate through Poornima and Urvashi junctions. Now, they should climb Richmond flyover and descend at Double Road for proceeding towards Lalbagh East Gate Circle, take right turn on Marigowda Road to reach Lalbagh Main Gate and proceed as usual. However, only LMVs will climb the up-ramp from Richmond Road side. Buses and HMVs will use the left side of the ramp as before.

Cars and Scooters (LMVs) from Richmond Road proceeding towards Lalbagh East Gate and left turn towards Wilson Garden and Ashoka Pillar etc should climb the up-ramp at Richmond Circle and descend at Double Road before proceeding towards the destination. No buses will climb the up-ramp. Buses will continue to use the left side of the ramp at surface level.

Vehicles proceeding towards Mission Road should not climb the up-ramp at Richmond Circle. Instead, they should take a left turn and proceed towards Shanthinagar signal light (Blood Bank Circle) and take a right turn under the flyover towards Mission Road.
Vehicles proceeding towards Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road and Hudson Circle etc should go straight using the right side of the flyover and proceed as usual.

Vehicles from Mission Road heading towards Residency Road should climb the up-ramp and descend at Residency Road.

Vehicles from Double Road going towards Residency Road will climb the up-ramp and merge with the up-ramp traffic coming from Mission Road and descend at Residency Road. Hence, the ramp of Double Road will run two-way up to a short distance till it merges with the ramp at Mission Road.

For this, following arrangements will come into effect: At N R Square, traffic coming from J C Road headed towards Residency Road can take right turn on Kalinga Road, climb the up-ramp and descend at Residency Road.

At Blood Bank Junction under the flyover, priority will be given to straight bus - traffic from K H Road towards Richmond Circle.

At Blood Bank Junction, priority will be given to traffic from Richmond Circle turning right towards Mission Road. Signal timing will be reconfigured to take care of the above changes.
