Notice to NICE, KIADB on land acquisition case

BANGALORE: The High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Limited (NICE) and the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).
The HC was hearing a petition challenging land acquisition for the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project in Doddatoguru, Beguru village in Bangalore South. Hearing the petition filed by Babu Reddy and others, residents of Doddatoguru, Justice Ajith Gunjal issued the notices.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that KIADB had acquired seven kuntas from the petitioner in Doddatoguru for the project.
However, the petitioner’s land was 150 metres away from the peripheral road being built by NICE, the petitioner argued.
While NICE acquired the petitioner’s land, the peripheral road was already complete, the counsel said. KIADB had acquired the land in 2003, while NICE tried to take away the petitioner’s scheduled land, the counsel added.
PIL challenging Council and BBMP polls dismissed The HC dismissed a public interest litigation challenging the elections to the Legislative Council and the BBMP. K G Nagaraj and others had argued that holding the Council and BBMP polls would be a waste of public money.
The BBMP is being run by an administrator since 2006, at this stage election is not necessary, petitioners’s counsel argued.
The petitioner had sought direction to the government to postpone both the elections. Division bench headed by Justice K L Manjunath dismissed the petition.
NREGS case on Dec 18 The HC has posted for a final hearing on December 18, a petition challenging the notification on the minimum wages fixed under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), 2005.
A division bench headed by Justice K L Manjunath adjourned the hearing of the PIL to December 11 for orders. According to the petitioner, the minimum wage given in Karnataka under NREGS is Rs 82 per day. However, in Karnataka, the minimum wage has been fixed at Rs 119.42 per day, the petitioner’s counsel argued. Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat had filed the petition seeking quashing of the January 1, 2009 notification fixing wages under NREGA.
