13609 acres for NICE

BANGALORE: The government has decided to hand over 13,609 acres and various tax benefits to the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Limited (NICE) — the private company implementing the Bangalore Mysore Corridor (BMIC) project.
A high-level committee acting headed by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa acting on the directions of the Supreme Court took the decision on November 19.
The committee calls the 13,609 acres the ‘remaining land’ that was left after 7,124 acres were allotted to NICE in October this year.
The committee has also decided allot 1,916 acres and has directed the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) to complete the process before June 30, 2010.
[NICE has agreed to accept the land price fixed by KIADB, and in the event of farmers approaching the courts for higher compensation, NICE has agreed to pay the compensation fixed by the Courts].
On the issue of lakes the lakes, the Deputy Commissioner, Bangalore Urban, who was a part of the high-level meeting, highlighted that, many lakes were identified as government land in 1998.
Out of 158 acres that are to be handed over, nearly 130 acres form lakes. A sub committee has been setup headed by Chief Secretary to decide on the 130 acres of lands.
The Committee has decided to waive off cess tax, entry tax, sales tax and stamp duty for the BMIC project. It has decided to issue Khathas for land in respect of which a sale deed will be executed.
A new notification on toll rates will be issues soon and it will include the toll for the link road also. Acting on the direction of the Supreme Court, on November 19, the high level committee headed by Chief Minister and other departments concerned with the BMIC project met and has decided to carry out activities for early completion of the project, along with fixing a time frame.
The Committee has recommended that farmers be removed from encroachments and has asked the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force to assist.
