Minsk Square War memorial to be shifted to Fountain Park

The historic war memorial statue of the ‘Unknown Soldier’ at the Minsk Square will be relocated to the Military Memorial opposite the Jawaharlal Nehru planetarium to facilitate construction of the underground stretch of the Bangalore Metro project.


Sources in the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said, the statue which has been wrapped up to prevent dust settling over it, will be moved to the Military Memorial (Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain Park) on T Chowdiah Road, High Grounds in the next two-three days.

“Work to facilitate construction of the underground station has already commenced. So, the war memorial statue has to be relocated,” the source added.

Another piece of history, a replica of the Ajeet (Gnat) aircraft built by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) that was also located at the Minsk Square, was dismantled and shifted to the hangars of the HAL a few months ago, after the BMRCL announced that it would have to shift the memorial.

However, authorities at Namma Metro are yet to officially announce award of contract pertaining to the underground tender works.
