After the beautification of city walls, it is now the turn for city lakes to get a makeover.
Addressing the industrialists at Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) on Wednesday, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner Bharatlal Meena said that BBMP has plans to be develop theme-based lakes. "There are 183 lakes in the city. Forty of them are being developed and a survey is being carried out for other lakes. For example, a lake which has medicinal plants will be developed accordingly. A cycling lane will be formed in front of lakes, and such other themes will be implemented," said Meena.
Addressing the industrialists, Meena asked them to assist the BBMP engineers in carrying out the developmental works in their respective wards.
The members of FKCCI asked Meena to take a trip to areas such as Mumoolpet, Chickpet, Madhav Nagar — industrial areas which are worst hit when it rains.
Meena also emphasised the need of segregating wet waste from dry waste at the household level itself so that the 50 per cent usage of the garbage trucks can be reduced.
