BANGALORE: To review the allotment and possession of land for the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, a review committee headed by Chief Minister B S Yeedyurappa is meeting on November 19. The meeting is being held pursuant to a Supreme Court order of November 3. The committee will review the land allotment as per the outer development plan (ODP) of February 12, 2004.
If not for Advocate General Ashok Harnahalli, who misdirected the Supreme Court, this review committee wouldn’t have existed and according to the affidavit filed by the secretary of the Public Works Department (PWD) on December 4, 2008, as many as 2,289.7 acres of land worth Rs 30,000 crore wouldn’t have been handed over to NICE.
Now, the government is set to regularise the land in accordance with the new order of November 10, saying goodbye to the previous government order of October 18, 2008, which was approved by the cabinet.
In this order, the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Limited (NICE) was asked to implement the project according to the framework agreement of April 3, 1997.
In the process, around 17 lakes have been included (which are not in the original alignment) and 17 new villages have been added for the project. Thus there is a clear difference in the land approved for BMIC project in the government order of November, 20, 2005 and ODP (outer development plan) of February 12, 2004.
